A few users have written to me asking why their monitors have screens that are randomly turning yellow or green. This is a common problem with computers as they go through their life cycle.
The problem is usually caused by a loose video cable. The first thing you should do is make sure that both ends of your video cable are snug and secure. Tighten the screws on both the monitor and the computer end of the cable.
If that doesn’t work you might need a new video cable. Thankfully these do not cost much and can be bought from your local computer or electronics store. Simply replace the old cable with the new one.
If your problem is still not solved then please write to me in the comments below and we’ll see if I can help.
-> Why does a monitor turn yellow or green?
I have one for you…
I’ve tried all of the normal troubleshooting steps: cable check and replace. Tested monitor on another computer that is known to be working itself and the monitor is fine on the other computer; as well as with its logo and menu system. Checked video card settings and installed a new video card.
The computer did have a virus that I was able to remove (this is a specialty of mine.); it even had two rootkits found and removed by Malwarebytes Antimalware.
The video was working fine after these viruses were removed. Then, the next day or two it began having a yellow-greenish tint to the screen.
My next attempt will be to try and reseat the Processor and if that doesn’t work, try resetting the BIOS. I have tried installing an update to the BIOS already.
By the way; The tint also shows up during the BIOS startup. So, it doesn’t have to do with Windows software or drivers.
I’ve been in the IT industry for 15 years and do not remember running across this particular problem before. I’m a bit stumpt.
Anything else you can think of?
Monitor: LG W2240T (It was originally connected with VGA and now with DVI through the V.Card)
Computer: Gateway GT5228
I have a cable thats going bad, moving it at all on one end will send it into a “random” color of the 20-30 colors
Thank you. this page helped. :)
Thank you!!! I finally fixed it!!!
my laptop screen is turning green and pink and i don`t know what happen?
I tried to fix the cable of the monitor..and it still dosen’t go…when i touch the cable it becomes red blue..etc.what should i do?
My mining super computer turns green but after being on for awhile it glitches super hard and you can’t see or do anything and it stops it from mining, it also sometimes randomly restarts, do I need a new motherboard?
Thanks for that info. After reading your advice, I reached in back of the computer and the VGA cable was loose and fell off. I tightened it and everything is back to normal.
What I found was, it happened to me when I inserted a new ram. Also, the fact is, I have a 4gb ddr3 1333mhz ram, and i installed a new 2gb ddr3 1600mhz ram from another manufacturer. When i remove the new 2gb ram, all works fine. If i insert the new 2gb ram, the windows logo in boot up turns green, loading turns green, also there is a green tint all over the windows.
I connect the Acer H236HL monitor to my Laptop ASUS ViVo, it was working fine but now the monitor turn to yellow/green while the Laptop screen is good.
I did check the HDMI cable connections at both ends, did change the HDMI cables but nothing works.
I try to set the Display but it only has one option: 1|2 (I remember in the past I can choose 1|1, 1|2 or 2|2.)
Could you please help.

Only different thing is a new connector to go from Thunderbolt to video monitor cable. I can’t find an answer. The picture is there on the monitor but green!!!
