Solution to Civilization V crashing on start

If your copy of Civilization is crashing on start-up, or when loading, a possible solution is to disable the “intro” movie. It seems like this movie causes problems on some machines.

To disable the intro movie:

1. Completely close both Steam and Civilization V.
2. Navigate to “Documents/My Games/Sid Meier’s Civilization 5”
3. Open the file “UserSettings.ini”
4. Find the entry “SkipIntroVideo = 0”
5. Change the 0 to a 1 so that the entry now reads “SkipIntroVideo = 1”
6. Re-start Civilization V.

As you launch the game now the intro movie will not play and any problems that the movie caused will no longer occur.
